The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has finally taken notice of the Church’s stance on gambling as they do away with their old “lottery” system of distributing Christmas tickets. Demand for tickets to the Christmas Concert is incredibly high every year — in order to give everyone a shot at receiving tickets, they were distributed randomly.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir explained that “the random selection method resulted in some processing delays, in people not being able to select the night for their tickets, and in other handling problems at the box office. This year patrons will be able to see which nights are available at the time they make their selection and will know at the end of their request which night their tickets are for.”

In order to find out when tickets become available, you can subscribe to the MoTab Newsletter.

Church Owned Skyscraper Takes SLC to New Heights

Towering nearly 400 feet off the ground, 111 Main stands as the third tallest building in Salt Lake City, UT.

“It is clear Salt Lake City has a new icon,” said Mayor Jackie Biskupski, “and this is just the beginning.”

The 24-story tower, located next to the new, Broadway-style George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater, is topped with a 32-foot-high glass paneled LCD light display. Adding 439,611 square feet of office space, the building is predicted to bring as many as 4,000 more visitors into the heart of the city everyday. The mayor hopes this massive influx will help to revitalize Main Street and downtown.

The building has also sparked the interest and outrage of many outside the LDS community, decrying the Church’s decision to erect such a construct. Most of the criticism centers around the Church’s financial hand in building 111 Main. Though no one can say yet whether or not the investment will pay off, BYU Professor and writer, Daniel Petersen offers a sound counterargument to those who feel this is a misuse of funds.

When it comes time for you child to embark on their LDS mission, you want them to possess all the necessary skills for survival without a parental guide. Cooking something other than ramen is a must for optimal missionary happiness — and health.

Thankfully, there is a cooking class geared specifically toward future missionaries, college bound adolescents, and the newly married: “Called to Serve Dinner.” The class focuses on the basics, giving students a solid foundation so that they’ll be able to read recipes and cook vegetables.

“Called to Serve Dinner” is the brainchild of teacher turned chef, Lindsey Joy Smith. Smith instructs the class on how to make an omelet, simple sauces, and the proper rice to water ratio.

“We also learn to make bread, which for most [students] is a first,” she said. “We always conclude with a sit-down meal with the food they have made, and there are always leftovers to take home and brag to their family about.”

Rape Verse Removed from Personal Progress Book

The Church has officially removed Moroni 9:9 from the English versions of the Personal Progress Manual — other languages will soon follow. The scripture which states, “For behold, many of the daughters of the Lamanites have they taken prisoners; and after depriving them of that which was most dear and precious above all things, which is chastity and virtue — ”

This change comes three years after this verse, and any other connecting rape with chastity, was decried by LDS feminists across the United States. Writer and editor Kristine Haglund wrote on the subject, explaining that “the chastity in which the Lord delights (Jacob 2) is not merely virginity, and cannot be taken away by another person, especially not by violence or abuse.”

With the news of this correction, many Mormon women have taken to social media to express their joy.
