James J. Hamula was excommunicated from the LDS Church “following church disciplinary action by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles,” Church spokesman Eric Hawkins said in a prepared release Tuesday, August 8.
Several media outlets covered the announcement, leading to social media comments and speculation about what, exactly, happened.
Randy McDougal, who served as a missionary under Hamula, published a Facebook post asking for understanding and mercy toward Hamula.
