‘LDS Share Expo’ Teaches How to Succeed as a Digital Missionary

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has encouraged members to share their beliefs online. In order to become a successful digital missionary, individuals need to become proficient in social media, luckily the LDS Share Expo provides members the tools necessary for online missionary success.

Last spring 2014, the More Good Foundation launched its first ever LDS Share Expo at Brigham Young University. The purpose of LDS Share is to provide Church members the resources to share the gospel online by teaching them the basics of each social network and how to use them to share the gospel effectively.

Jeremy Vick, the director of outreach for More Good Foundation, who also currently heads the LDS Share Expo, spoke to LDS.net about the success of the first LDS Share Expo.

The anticipation leading up to the first Expo was if 100 people showed up it would be great. We ended up having more than 2,700 people show up at the door. It was astounding.

From there, the LDS Share Expo snowballed and has taught countless Church members how to appropriately share the gospel online. “We teach people how to use social media, a tool that we’ve been given to share the gospel,” Vick said. “We want to help members know where they can find things to share and how they can share them on social media platforms.”

The LDS Share Expo commences with a short fireside about sharing goodness online. Directly following the fireside, members get an interactive experience at different booths which feature specific social media platforms. The Expo teaches members the different levels of missionary activity, ranging from a more simple and subtle missionary approach to a more in-depth and forward approach.

The next LDS Share Expo will be held at BYU-Hawaii on Sunday April 12th. Other LDS Share Expos are scheduled to come to BYU, BYU-Idaho and numerous stakes throughout Utah and Idaho. To follow LDS Share Expo and to receive more information about these events, check out their Facebook page.
